🌳 What is the Tree of Life?

The Tree of Life is an ancient mystical map of reality itself. It describes how the divine moves from the source down into matter, and how the soul moves back towards the source through different levels of consciousness.

The most well-known is the Tree of Life from Kabbalah, from Jewish mysticism. It consists of ten sacred spheres called sefirot, connected by 22 paths. Each sphere represents an aspect of the divine and a level of the soul's development.

There is also Yggdrasil, the Nordic world tree that connects nine worlds. The Celtic Tree of Life, which symbolizes the connection between earth, sky, and the underworld. And similar tree symbols in Hinduism, Buddhism, Christian mysticism, and in indigenous wisdom traditions around the world.

Malkuth, The Kingdom

The physical world, the body, everyday life, the material. Here the soul is fully incarnated. Here it learns to live in form, to encounter the earth, to be in the body. It is the base.

Yesod, The Foundation

Intuition, dreams, the subconscious, the sphere of the moon. Here the soul encounters its visions, its sensitivity, its ability to read the unseen. Here the psychic awakens.

Hod, Glory

The intellect, communication, the word, formulation. Here the soul learns to express, write, speak, channel. The sphere of Mercury.

Netzach, Victory

Passion, endurance, emotion, creative power in the world. Here the soul learns to uphold its truth over time, face resistance, manifest the inner in outer form. The sphere of Venus.

Tiferet, Beauty

The righteous force, boundaries, holy wrath, the ability to cut away what does not serve. Here the soul learns to stand in its power without causing harm. The sphere of Mars.

Chesed, Mercy

Expansion, generosity, gentleness, great love. Here the soul learns to give without depleting itself, to be merciful without being weak. The sphere of Jupiter.

Binah, Understanding

The great mother, deep understanding, the wisdom of sorrow, shaping force. Here the soul encounters the feminine primal force that gives form to the formless. The sphere of Saturn.

Chokmah, Wisdom

The pure impulse, the first movement, the masculine primal force that fertilizes. Here the soul encounters the original creative force before it took form.

Kether, The Crown

The Source itself. The first light. The divine in its purest form. Here the soul encounters the origin. Few incarnated souls fully land in Kether; it is the homecoming.

🛤️ The 22 Paths

Between the spheres are 22 paths. When your soul moves from one sphere to the next, it crosses a path. The paths are where the real work happens; they are the movement between stations, the transformation from one level of consciousness to the next.

Many souls are not in a sphere but ON a path for long periods of their lives. It is common to feel "between," "in motion," "on the way but not arrived." This is not wrong; it is how the tree actually works.
